Featured Look - 1/27/2011 Phuong Tran

FEATURED LOOK

Name: Phuong Tran
Age: 16 years old
Nationality: Vietnamese

If you haven't noticed already, I'm really going to simplify this feature. I'll just provide the most minimal information as I think that the important thing about these posts is the outfit itself and the personal style. I think it's up to you (readers) to interpret it the way you want to - and maybe comment if you do have any questions :)

Purple Mustard.

Mustard: any of several cruciferous plants of the genus Brassica.

I was thinking more of like, Mustard: ketchup that is yellow; yellow ketchup.

I've always wanted to get myself a mustard yellow coat, but then I found the next best thing. Yellow mustard suede wedges and they cost about US$20. I absolutely love them, and I think I can play around with colored socks and different colored pieces in my outfit with these wedges!

All That Stuff Underneath All Those Other Stuff.

Traditional: an inherited pattern of thought or action.

I forgot I had this dress. I bought it for this party (dresscode was maxi floral dress) and I wouldn't have normally though just 'cause no maxi dresses fit me usually. It's really rare for me to find one the right length. This one is way too long for me (still. and probably will always be if I keep not growing at this pace) so I've never worn it out except for that party. Even with heels, it's still long. Anyways, I was looking through my clothes the other day and decided to do an outfit post with this dress! I actually love it and would wear it out, if only I could grow an extra inch overnight fit in it. It's very "spring" like, you know? The trick with maxi dresses is that I think a lot of people don't feel comfortable with wearing it because traditionally long dresses are worn to formal occasions and now more and more people are wearing it casually as well.

(Zara floral maxi dress, Naima red mary jane platforms, Zara ribbon belt)

The round metal ring is a birthday gift from a friend.

Platforms are like shoes for people that want heels with more heels. I love platforms. Heels just seem like flats with platforms. I guess its also to my advantage since I'm a dwarf relatively short so I can't go wrong with them.

Shoes Eye-Candy.

Eye-candy: visual images that are pleasing to see but are intellectually undemanding; "he wanted to put some eye candy on their web site".

Can I just say Jeffrey Campbell shoes gives me tingles. In a good way.

This one is really finsk-esque.

Change It Up, Yo.

Change: cause to change; make different; cause a transformation.

I don't know if you guys have been watching the new American Idol auditions but I really liked this one guy who was in the middle of singing Somewhere over the rainbow and said "Change it up" in the middle of it and he was SO GOOD. Anyways, I changed the layout of my blog :) hahahaha and a little copyright note at the bottom! Woohoo!

Chipped nail polish action there.

THANK YOU!

QUICK UPDATE:
I only just got back from Ha Long Bay maybe an hour ago (it's 12AM for me right now) and I left at 7 in the morning, so I'm extremely exhausted but I've been wanting to do this post since yesterday... so here it is.

Thank you for my 50 followers! I can't believe I would ever reach 50, but it is a "milestone" I guess you could say. Thank you anyone who reads my blog at all, having one person read it was good enough to me, let alone fifty!

So thank you guys! I was gonna have a competition or a giveaway but I need to sort out the delivering system here in Hanoi and all that boring legistics stuff so instead I'm probably going to do that for my HUNDRETH (might take a while).

So again, thanks everyone and I'll update on what went on today, tomorrow.

YAY.
 Truly grateful, Tammie.

Yeah, This One's The Sphynx.

The Sphynx: (also known as Canadian Hairless ) a rare breed of cat known for its lack of a coat.

Today was actually quite warm, so I didn't dress too warmly. I finally wore my big ribbon headband, and paired it with my brown fuzzy boots (birthday gift from my best friend, Chi) which I LOVE. They're warm and comfortable and snug and everything you'd ever want for fuzzy boots.

(Zara blouse, Zara blue jeans, unbranded bow headband, unbranded fuzzy boots)

Heading off to Ha Long Bay tomorrow. For those of you who don't know, it's one of the new seven wonders of the world! It should be quite chilly so I need to find something warm to wear.

Ciao,
Tammie.

I'll Take That One, In Half Please.

Crop: cut short; "She wanted her hair cropped short".
My mom was really into cropped coats when we were vacationing in Hong Kong during our last break so she bought me one from Zara. I really love it! It comes with a detachable hoodie (but the buttons to put the hoodie on are coming off because it was on the sale rack) as well. It's actually really warm apart from the fact that it's in half and that the sleeves stop in that awkward place between my elbow and my wrist.

(Zara cropped military coat, Zara dress, unbranded ribboned heels)

SUCH A SHAME WITH THE FACE!! I really like this picture otherwise :/

I love these heels! They're grey suede, and I got them for really cheap in some random market in Indonesia. I got it for about US$13? Which is a bargain right?

Berry Darling Indeed.

Berry: any of numerous small and pulpy edible fruits; used as desserts or in making jams and jellies and preserves.
The weather just gets cooler and cooler. I really need to get me some more winter wear clothes because what I've been wearing so far never gets me quite that warm yet. The socks I wore today is a birthday present from a friend of mine (Andrea Curcio - on featured looks a couple times) and I think they give the look that little push since I'm just wearing solid colors with the other pieces.

(Zara woman coat, mom's dress, knit tights, unbranded knee socks, unbranded boots)

I really look like a 12 year old. Hahahaha.

Don't ask me why I like to tuck my hair in my coats like that. I really want to cut my hair that short, but I look so much younger with it. Maybe a lot shorter than that? Anyways, I changed the color of my nails (finally) since the old color was starting to chip away is all gone. This is also my birthday present from Andrea; O.P.I nail polish called That's Berry Darling which is berry darling indeed ;)

Black Roses

Roses: any of the wild or cultivated, usually prickly-stemmed, pinnate-leaved, showy-flowered shrubs of the genus Rosa.
I got this dress from my cousin over winter break since she's started a little business with clothes. She bought some samples back to Jakarta and we had a view things to look through, so that was nice. I really like this dress, I think I can wear it formally as well as casually. It has this gorgeous rose detail on the neckline. I usually wouldn't get dresses like this but this one caught my eye.

There's a few ways that you can work a dress like this to make it more casual. I was thinking of an outerwear (coat or blazer), or accesorize (so a belt). I'm still not sure about how it looks though, so what do you guys think?

I think belting it makes the bottom of the dress look really square which kind of looks awkward. Comments? Anyways, so here's the outfit:

Grainy photos look really old school.

Black roses.

These Zara ankle strap heels I wore for my prom last year.
