80's Inspiration

Transformation: a qualitative change

I love how all the things that were old are new again. I would imagine that there's a billion of posts concerning the same topic I'm about to write about now, but it really is something that's worth writing a post about :)

Bright bold colors, baggies, converse, high socks - I think it's really inspirational and great to be able to take things from the past and turn it into something that you can wear today. So today's look, I was really trying to channel some 80s look. Who wouldn't want to live in the 80s? Big hair, bold colors, and just everything is so bright and bold (and big for that matter).
Okay, not quite like this - but the same idea.

Love the harems there and the knit boob tube.

I had an English presentation today so I didn't want to distract everyone with neon green pants or something, but instead I wore a purple/blue tank and all black. I wore my ratty black converse with high socks (bunched up in the bottom to channel leg warmers), my black harems and a black blazer with my new Cotton on purple/black chiffon crop tank. Later on in the day I put on my grey knit beanie. Been listening to Britney the whole day as well.

THIMUN Singapore

Conferences: a discussion among participants who have an agreed (serious) topic

So amazingly, I didn't take that many pictures at all during our trip to Singapore. I'm not sure why... I guess I was too busy doing the things that I was doing to actually stop and take some pictures. I did take some on the last day though, and I took one group picture of our last conference day :)

Here they are:

This is our THIMUN group. I'm wearing my wisteria heels, and they were so goddamn comfortable I didn't need my flats at all. I love what my friend is wearing as well (to my left). She's wearing a blazer over this one shouldered dress. I only found out after we came back that some of the MUN directors that they found some of the heels worn (including mine) innappropriate. LOLZ. They can go [insert innapropriate verb here] [insert noun here].

These were some of the people that I was working with on our resolution.
Left to right: delegate of Iraq (or Iran... I can't remember), Israel, South Korea, Australia and Namibia (me).

President, general secretary, and chairs.

We woke up sort of late that morning, so packing took approx. 20 minutes and then we headed out to shop. We didn't have time to put any make up on. I actually look the same without make up :/ Not sure if that's good or bad hahahaha. Love how my hair stayed really good for the rest of the trip back though.

What I did during plennary. Lol. Only slightly bored.

This was where we stayed...
A picture during closing ceremony. Haha, check out my friend there.

Truly cannot wait for next year's conferences (it will be my last year as well :( )
I wish I took more pictures of the delegates and their outfirs though. It would've made a nice post.

Ciao,
Tammie.

Wisteria Wonderland.

Wisteria: any flowering vine of the genus Wisteria

I don't even want to know what genus means. Haha, probably some plant related science-y name. Wow, I sound really dumb just now.
Anyways, these Topshop LIMITED EDITION Brand New Wisteria Chiffon Tie Wedge Heels (3 5.5 36 Rare) are in my possession. I have been drooling over Wisteria heels since for as long as I've known they existed, and I got my hands on the last pair in MY SIZE.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on these new heels. The chiffon material fits perfectly on my feet and provides a comfortable padding. These heels look dangerously tall but believe it or not they are THE most comfortable pair of heels I have ever had/tried on/wore. Ever. The heels itself is about 12.5cm tall (around 5 inches). The covering is this light plum/pink suede and light as a feather. I can jump in them, I can run in them, I can go trekking with them if I have to but I won't because I don't want to ruin these heels.

My best splurge I would have to say, and of course my prized possesion. Goes well with everything. Especially my new ballet maxi skirt.

I can't wait to wear these babies around town.

Excited,
Tammie.

Are We Humans or Are We Dancers?

Ballet: a theatrical representation of a story that is performed to music by trained dancers

I'll divide up the posts so it's not one big post about things that I bought, because that would just be boring I suppose. I wore the new Zara top that I bought my mom today along with a short ballet skirt.
I bought a couple of ballet skirts over my stay in Singapore as they make a look that much more versatile, and I can easily wear them to school. They're very warm as well actually.

And I'm really glad I got around to buying those polka dot tights. There's a billion things that you can wear with them :)

I am wearing the dark blue zara top, with a tank top underneath, as well as a Zara ballet skirt (cotton lining), and New Look spotted tights.

I bought this skirt at a thrift for around 20 bucks which I thought was reasonable. I love it so much.

It's nice to try things that you normally wouldn't try, just to see how they turn out so I'm glad I got these ballet skirts.

Tammie.

Sunrise Sunset

Advice: a proposal for an appropriate course of action.

This is the outfit that I will wear tomorrow to travel to Singapore in. Except I can't decide over the two bags. I love the messenger bag and I want to bring it to singapore so I might as well hand carry it, but the fringe bag fits the outfit better... Any comments? They will be much appreciated thanks :)

The outfit by itself:
I am wearing:
1. Zara grey blazer
2. Black tank and brown belt
3. Zara floral Harem Pants
4. Aldo black wedges

The outfit with the messenger bag:

The outfit with the fringe bag:

So which?

Well the dilemma is that I want to bring the messenger bag to Singapore, and i only want to bring 1 bag, but the fringe bag looks much better with the outfit, and is much more spacious so... Comments?

Desperate need of advice,
Tammie.

Travelling? No Problem.

Travelling: travel: the act of going from one place to another; "he enjoyed selling but he hated the travel".

It's finally the day before I leave for Singapore. Our THIMUN conferences don't actually start until Wednesday morning, up to Saturday, so we'll have half the day free tomorrow. We leave from school at 8 AM and our flight leaves at 10, so we'll get there at about noon.

So, since I'm going to post the outfit that I will wear for travelling later on anyways, I will write some tips for dressing up for the plane. Or some advice that I always follow when picking out outfits for travelling.

Number One Rule
Choice of footwear is VERY important when travelling. Actually, choice of footwear is very important all the time. My number one rule while travelling (for long distance: out of the country, more than 3 hours, etc.) is no flippy floppies. You will want to be moving quite fast while travelling, and also quite comfortably, so flip flops are a big no-no for me. If you're running they might fall off, then you have to huddle back and get them. Things that roll and people will be everywhere so the chances are if you are in a crowded airport, your toes will get stubbed, trodded upon, rolled on to, stepped on, smushed, smashed, squashed and more. If your flip flops are cheap and hard, they will give you blisters anywhere the straps touch your feet. My recommendation is a pair of good, comfy sneakers (by sneakers of course I mean a pair of ratty converse ;]), boots (you may wear heels in this case), comfy heels/wedges or FLATS.

Rule numero deux
Rule number two is think FUNCTIONALITY for things you carry. My bags are usually big totes. Or small sling-bags depending on what I'm bringing. Backpacks are fine but I just have a thing against them, so I usually steer clear of back packs. BRING PENS. Don't bring a bag gaping wide open for anyone's hand to stick into or your passport to fall out of. Make sure there are a kazillion little pouches on the inside for things like mints, passports, pens, money, make-up, etc.

Rule numero trois
I usually go for comfortable casual when I'm travelling. Wearing pants/shorts is highly recommended (remember, I'm talking long distance flights - everything depends), wear something that you won't trip over, or does not hug your feet so tight it swells. Skirts are okay I guess, but it might become a hassle in terms of functionality because you'll be walking around a lot. Scarves and an outerwear is also recommended. No matter where you go, chances are you will get cool, if not cold, over your travels. Being 30000 feet in the air can have that effect. So bring a scarf or a blazer, or even a jacket or hoodie if you're really going for comfortable. Wear a tank top or T-shirt and not something that will fall off or slide down.

Rule numero quatre
Your hair. Hair, hair, hair.
I hate having my hair up when I'm on the plane just because I can't lean on the seats. I hate having it down because it gets very static-y and really uncomfortable. So, I usually have it down when I leave, have it down as I settle in the plane and down when I sleep. As soon as I wake up, I usually tie it up in a bun for the rest of the trip. I also like to keep my bangs out of my face. When you sleep, the oil on your face will make your bangs nice and oily (if you have bangs or a fringe), even side bangs. So I highly recommend you keep it back with a pin or bobby pin.

So I hope one day those tips will be quite useful to you, if not already :)

I will post my outfit on the next post :)

Happy travelling!,
Tamara.

Old and New

Old: (used especially of persons) having lived for a relatively long time or attained a specific age.

I've unearthed my old top from Zara which I thought would go together with my new heels :)

Pardon my retarded head (was going to write hair.. but then that was not the only thing that was retarded, so yeah my whole head).

Had a busy weekend, and you can see the exhaustion from my face and hair. I also love that skirt I'm wearing which I bought in a thrift store here called Tracy's. It's got marilyn monroe prints on them.

My mom also got me a new pair of boots downtown. They're very cute :) Thanks mom :)

High School Musical?

Indifferent: apathetic: marked by a lack of interest; "an apathetic audience"; "the universe is neither hostile nor friendly; it is simply indifferent".

So last night I watched our school production of High School Musical. Yes, THE High School Musical with all its disney goodness. Well I was initially quite excited but then the show itself ended up being okay. The highlights of the night was definitely watching Sharpay's costumes change. Let's just say I felt" indifferent" towards the whole show. It was just fun to watch my friends up there acting and singing and dancing and whatnot. Here are the main cast:

Your one and only, Troy and Gabriella.

Le jocks. Welcome to Asia.

Ryan and Sharpay, who are actual twins here. They were so good. And check that costume!

Kelsi, Troy, Chad, Taylor and Gabriella.
Ryan and Sharpay's costume for Bop to the top. LOVE.

The whole cast at the end. Cheerleaders at the back, drama kids in orange, white lab-coated people are... you can guess.

Overall, it was a great experience for my camera what with all the colors, movements, and photographic opportunities. Note I was sitting on the 3rd last row from the stage and my camera managed to take these shots.

I do feel like I need to give them some more credit though, they did work very hard on it. Great job guys!

Ciao,
Tamara.

Studded Fringe

Studded: dotted or adorned with or as with studs or nailheads; usually used in combination; "star-studded heavens"; "diamond-studded belt".

This weekend is a long weekend for me :) So Wenny and I went out downtown to go shopping and to just chill. This is the outfit that I was wearing today:

I am wearing:
1. Mom's knit dress/shirt
2. Zara print jeans
3. Aldo black wedges
4. Classic Louis Vuitton bag

Was just going for simple and casual, and threw in a pinch of fall color there with the shirt. Sporting my usual asian-bun look.

I also went by Aldo again and bought the other pair of heels that I was talking about last weekend. They were still there, thank god, and it was on sale so. Feast your eyes on these 5-inch fringey, studded goodness:

They look like these super sexy ankle boots 'cause they go a little higher up my ankle, but they're not. Yum.

Grey Weather

Humidity: Wetness in the atmosphere.

Lol at the definition.

Anyways, it's quite a grey, hazy day today in Hanoi but then again when is it not? For those of you who does not know, it's quite STANKIN' humid in Hanoi EVERY, DAY. It's also usually grey and hazy without much sun nor blue sky. So yeah, it's quite lovely. I'll show you what I mean with this gorgeous view from my room (yay fields and swamps),

"Mr. Blue Sky, please tell us why, you had to hide away for so long where did we go wrong."
Mr. Blue Sky Electric Light Orchestra

Today was no exception and I didn't feel like dressing up much for school so here's what I wore:

Me is wearing:
1. Zara casual white tee (with those cute little pockets)
2. Banana Republic Stripy Loop Scarf
3. Zara acid-wash skinnies
4. Topshop shopping bag
5. Thrift ribbon grey suede platforms
6. Mom's 5-gems ring

My mom gave me her 5-gems ring today and they're gorgeous. It's got garnet, ruby, emerald, topaz and aquamarine. So precious.
While taking these pictures, I got a little bit weird and my sister kept taking the pictures so...
